About: The Team: Jude Reveley, RPT

Jude Reveley began his career in piano technology while attending the Berklee College of Music, from which he graduated with a BA in Music Composition in 1992. By 1995, a passionate curiosity to delve deeper into the inner workings of the piano led Jude to a part-time apprenticeship with a local company that specialized in soundboard replacement. Simultaneously, Jude founded Absolute Piano Restoration to service a growing list of private clientele that included subcontract work for the local Steinway dealership. This opened up opportunities to attend some training sessions at the Steinway Factory and certification in the installation of PianoDisc and QRS Pianomation player systems.

Around this time, Jude became a Registered Piano Technician in the Piano Technicians Guild, demonstrating proficiency in the required areas of tuning, repair, and general piano technology. He volunteered to serve the local chapter of the guild in just about every office and committee including President, Executive Officer of NEECSO, and delegate to the PTG Council. Also, he has taught at regional and national conventions. In 2006, Jude was invited to participate in the Rebuilders Gallery, "an invitational format for some of the world's most successful and innovative rebuilders" (PTG Journal, May 2006). Additionally, he has also published several articles on various subjects of piano technology.

Continuing education continues to be an integral part of Jude's connection to the piano. In 1999, he was certified by David Stanwood in Touchweight Metrology and has more recently been mentored by Bruce Clark, Chief Engineer for the Mason & Hamlin Piano Company, learning comprehensive action dynamics and participating in the beta-test program for many of the new products developed by Wessel, Nickel & Gross. In 2007, Absolute Piano Restoration purchased the soundboard panel manufacturing division of Roseland Piano in Milwaukee, Oregon. In addition, Jude has been a member of the Bellyheads, a think-tank of the world's foremost bellymen dedicated to the collective advancement of piano design, specifically in the area of soundboard technology. Jude is currently pursuing a degree in engineering and CAD technology to enhance his understanding of the wonderful mysteries beneath the acoustics of the piano.

In 2009, Jude Reveley joined ranks with his long time esteemed colleague, mentor, and friend Christopher Brown, RPT to be the belly specialist of The Piano Rebuilders consortium. As Jude says, "This tremendous honor holds several advantages: a more streamlined effort, which improves both the efficacy of operations in the shop while simultaneously improving turn-around time for the client; a higher standard by having multi-talented piers participate in the overall quality control; as well as a behind the scenes fusion of energy and ideas in all aspects."
